An update in the second season of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will see the addition of Zombies veteran Samantha Maxis as a playable Operator.

A new Operator bundle in Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will allow players to battle as recurring series character Samantha Maxis. Call of Duty: Warzone released in March 2020 as a free-to-play battle royale installment in the long-running first-person shooter series. The game later tied into Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, a more traditional title that features a single-player campaign and competitive multiplayer modes. With a new season of Black Ops Cold War, more content is on the way.

Like Call of Duty titles of the past, Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War have both received an abundance of additional post-launch content. Black Ops Cold War has just entered its second season, and with it comes six new weapons, four new multiplayer maps, and multiple new gameplay modes. Meanwhile, leakers claim that a huge change will soon be coming to Warzone just in time for the game’s one-year launch anniversary. These leaks suggest that the game’s large Verdansk map will soon be the victim of a nuclear attack, which will spark the title’s transition into a brand new map.

The Call of Duty site’s breakdown of content that will be coming during Black Ops Cold War‘s second season confirms that Samantha Maxis will soon be playable in the game. Samantha Maxis is the daughter of Ludvig Maxis, an antagonist of the franchise’s signature Zombie mode and storyline. Samantha is mentioned multiple times in various Zombies maps, in both Call of Duty: World at War and throughout the Call of Duty: Black Ops series, including a major presence in Black Ops Cold War’s Zombie mode. Samantha will be added in the second week of Season 2 as part of the Maxis Operator bundle, which will include her alongside two Weapon Blueprints and other cosmetic items.

Season 2 of both Warzone and Black Ops Cold War ensure that Call of Duty fans will be receiving a huge amount of new content in a very short amount of time. Recent leaks indicate that Warzone will be receiving a dedicated Zombies mode in the near future, based on a leaked set of in-game challenges. Warzone briefly featured a Zombie Royale mode during a Halloween-themed event last October, so an undead presence in the game is not unprecedented.

The start of a new Call of Duty season is exciting for the series’ dedicated player base, giving them new weapons and locations to experience. Samantha Maxis’ addition as a playable Operator is a bit odd, but not unbelievable given the character’s long history within the franchise. While the game’s second season has only just begun, gamers need only wait a week before the Zombie alumnus is playable in Black Ops Cold War and Warzone.
