ALBANY – Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo extended the deadline to renew vehicle registrations and non-driver ID cards through executive order on Monday.
Drivers licenses, permits and vehicle inspections that expired during the height of the coronavirus pandemic in New York have until Nov. 3 to renew with the state Department of Motor Vehicles, according to the executive order.
Vehicle registrations including temporary auto dealer registrations and non-driver identification cards that expired in March or after will no longer remain valid after Nov. 3.
Cuomo had suspended the deadline in March as the coronavirus pandemic gripped New York, shutting down non-essential businesses and leaving scores of New Yorkers unemployed.
Local DMV offices have been operating with limited in-person services, asking anyone who needs to visit the office to make an appointment first. The department also has encouraged New Yorkers to use the online portal.
Other details of the precautions and restrictions of DMV offices are available by visiting the state’s website.
