Lake Fenton — Torrey Hill Intermediate School students clapped and cheered for the fifth grade students on Thursday, June 10 to celebrate their graduation from elementary school.
Thursday, June 10 was the last day of school for multiple school districts, including Lake Fenton Community Schools and Holly Area Schools.
Kathleen Conover, principal of Torrey Hill Intermediate, said they’ve been doing the clap out for the past 10 years. Students in three grades in 18 classrooms lined one of the basketball courts outside for the event, and the fifth grade students walked by and waved.
“The purpose is to honor our fifth grade students who are moving up to the middle school,” she said. “All of the classrooms had a variety of events to make this year extra special. Our Torrey Hill staff really went out of their way to honor the students for their hard work, perseverance and patience.”
A few third and fifth grade classrooms played games outside such as gaga ball, tug of war, and kickball games. The fifth grade teachers decorated the hallway movie themed, and the students enjoyed balloon decorations in the halls and a sack lunch prepared by the staff.
Torrey Hill has approximately 140 fifth grade students this year.
There are about 140 students (both online and face to face) in fifth grade.
Monica Turner, principal of Holly Elementary, said they’ve been doing the clap out for more than 20 years.
“We do this to congratulate our 5th graders and wish them well at the Middle School. A grand send off from the whole school,” she said.
The school also held a certificate presentation from the fifth grade students and their families. This past week, they had field day and other activities to mark the end of the school year.
