The May Day Maze event returns to Animal Crossing: New Horizons in 2021. If players find they need to restart, they can call for rescue, for a price.

The May Day Tour maze event is back in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and players can earn exclusive prizes for completing it successfully. May Day is the next repeat holiday celebration in Animal Crossing: New Horizons since the game launched a little over one year ago. During the 2021 event, the maze has changed and become just a little more difficult and unpredictable. The event runs from April 29 to May 7, and players who log in during that window will have a chance to visit a special May Day Tour island using a free May Day Ticket, received at the Airport. This island contains a hedge maze puzzle for players to solve. At the end of the maze, like last year’s event, players will have the opportunity to speak to Rover and claim their prize.

To get through the maze, players will need to complete familiar Animal Crossing: New Horizons activities, like crafting items, digging up trees and plants, smashing rocks, vaulting, gathering resources, and much more. However, it must all be completed in a single visit, as players will not be able to return to the May Day island later to finish. Sometimes, players may make a mistake while working on each activity, or they will miss picking up vouchers for bells found across the island. In either case, they can restart the maze, resetting it back to its original configuration, and try again. It will cost them to do this, however, so they will need to make sure they have saved enough Nook Miles to cover the cost. Here’s how to restart the May Day maze in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

How to Call Rescue Services in Animal Crossing: New Horizons

May Day Maze 2021 Animal Crossing New Horizons

To restart the May Day maze from the beginning in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, players will need to use their Nook Phone and call for Rescue Services. This service costs 100 Nook Miles each time it is used. Once players confirm their decision to pay the fee and start over, they will be taken to the beginning of the maze, and all progress will be reset. Because the maze does not change, players will not have to worry about navigating a new layout when they reset.

Apart from the fee, there are no other consequences to restarting and, as long as players have the Nook Miles, they can reset as many times as they need to ensure they solve the puzzle and complete the event. This becomes especially useful if players end up using a resource too soon or when it was not needed and get stuck in the maze because they no longer have that required resource.

Once they solve the maze, players will have the chance to speak with Rover, the familiar blue cat from previous Animal Crossing games. He will award players their prizes. Once players reach him, they will also be able to reenter the maze and pick up Bell Vouchers, which can later be exchanged for bells.

If Animal Crossing: New Horizons players completed the May Day maze last year, they will receive a new prize for 2021: Rover’s photo. This decoration can be hung in a player’s home or somewhere around town. The frame can be customized and, like other framed villager photos, interacting with the picture will provide a brief biography of Rover. Players experiencing the May Day maze for the very first time will receive the prize given in 2020, Rover’s Briefcase.
