NORTHBOROUGH, MA β€” Northborough is making adjustments to its usual holiday traditions to make sure the town can safely celebrate without being exposed to COVID-19. In lieu of Northborough’s Annual Tree Lighting ceremony, the town is channeling its holiday spirit into a decoration competition.

This will be the inaugural year of the “Light Up the Town Community Decorating Contest.” Residents of Northborough can sign-up to compete for the most festive display in town and members of the community will be able to vote online for their favorite three houses.

The Committee came up with this idea because it cannot hold the Annual Tree Lighting event downtown due to the current situation and regulations.

“The recent Jack-O-Lantern Stroll was such a huge hit for our community that we felt we should come up with a fun, socially distant event for the holiday season as well,” said Lisa Hodge, Chair of the Northborough Community Affairs Committee.

In order to take part in the decorating contest, community members must register here on the Committee’s website by Nov. 30. A list of addresses will then be made available on the Committee’s website and our Facebook page and on the weekends of Dec. 4th – 6th and Dec. 11th -13th from 5-8pm, the competing houses will be lit for all to drive around, enjoy and then vote. Voting will begin on Dec. 4th and end on Dec. 14th. Each of the 3 winners will receive a prize from a local business.

The complete set of rules for this contest are on the Committee’s website.
